APW Presents Ultra-High-Pressure Waterjet Technology at National Oil & Gas Well Control Safety Conference
Qingdao, China — September 15, 2026 — The First National Academic Exchange Conference on Well Control Safety Theory and New Technologies for Oil & Gas and Coalbed Methane Wells was held in Qingdao, China, bringing together experts, researchers, and technical professionals from universities, research institutions, oil and gas companies, applications of waterjet technology and the wider energy industry.
At the Oil & Gas Well Control Technical Exchange Session, Wu Yao, Technical Director of APW Water Jet, delivered a presentation entitled:
“Applications and Practices of Ultra-High-Pressure Waterjet Technology in Well Control Safety.”
Drawing on practical experience in oil and gas and petrochemical operations, the presentation explored the potential applications of cold-cutting waterjet technology in maintenance, emergency response, and rescue operations. Wu Yao also introduced APW’s accumulated technologies and equipment developed through years of work in ultra-high-pressure waterjet emergency rescue applications.

Addressing Safety Challenges in Oil & Gas and Petrochemical Maintenance
Maintenance, emergency repair, and rescue operations in oil and gas and petrochemical facilities can involve complex working environments where cutting operations require particular attention to safety.Conventional thermal cutting methods involve heat and sparks, which can require additional safety considerations in certain environments involving oil, gas, or other flammable materials.Against this background, Wu Yao introduced the potential role of ultra-high-pressure waterjet cold cutting technology in specialized industrial applications.Waterjet cutting uses a high-pressure water stream as the cutting medium. Depending on the application, pressure, flow rate, cutting head, and auxiliary systems can be configured to meet different material and operational requirements. For applications where eliminating conventional heat sources is advantageous, cold waterjet cutting provides an additional technical option for maintenance, emergency response, and rescue operations in oil and gas and petrochemical environments.
A Range of Waterjet Equipment for Emergency Rescue Applications
During the presentation, APW also introduced its portfolio and engineering experience developed through long-term work in ultra-high-pressure waterjet emergency rescue applications, including:
- Ultra-high-pressure, high-flow waterjet pump units
- Portable explosion-proof waterjet cutting machines for chemical and petrochemical applications
- Vehicle-mounted waterjet cutting equipment
- Waterjet engineering emergency rescue vehicles
- Cold-cutting emergency rescue fire trucks
Different equipment configurations can be developed according to the operating environment and emergency response requirements.APW combines waterjet pumps, cutting systems, power systems, control systems, and mobile vehicle platforms to provide solutions ranging from portable equipment to integrated mobile emergency response systems. The cold-cutting emergency rescue fire truck, for example, integrates waterjet cold-cutting equipment with a dedicated emergency response vehicle platform, providing a mobile solution for cutting operations in scenarios where rapid deployment is required.

From Waterjet Cutting to Safety-Oriented Industrial Solutions
APW’s development of waterjet emergency rescue equipment goes beyond simply making conventional waterjet machines mobile. The company approaches specialized applications by considering the complete operating environment, including cutting methods, equipment mobility, operational safety, power supply, and on-site deployment. This represents an important direction in the expansion of ultra-high-pressure waterjet technology from conventional material processing into specialized fields such as oil and gas, petrochemical operations, and emergency rescue.
For oil and gas and petrochemical companies, waterjet technology can therefore serve not only as a cutting process, but also as a potential component of maintenance, emergency response, and safety-oriented equipment systems.
Technical Discussions with Universities and Energy Companies
The presentation attracted strong interest from experts and technical professionals attending the conference.During the conference break, professors and experts from institutions including China University of Petroleum, Xi’an Shiyou University, and Beijing University of Technology held in-depth discussions with APW Technical Director Wu Yao regarding potential applications of ultra-high-pressure waterjet technology in well control safety, emergency response, and specialized operating environments.
Experts from China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), and Sinopec, as well as related companies within the energy sector, also exchanged views with Li Ming, Executive Vice President of APW, discussing practical application cases and specific technical details related to equipment configuration and project implementation. The discussions extended beyond equipment specifications to practical engineering considerations, including application scenarios, equipment selection, system configuration, field deployment, and project implementation experience.
Continuing to Explore Waterjet Applications in Energy Safety
For many years, APW has continued to develop ultra-high-pressure waterjet technologies and equipment, expanding their application from conventional industrial cutting to emergency rescue, petrochemical operations, energy equipment, and specialized industrial environments.Participation in the First National Academic Exchange Conference on Well Control Safety Theory and New Technologies provided APW with an opportunity to exchange technical experience with professionals from the oil and gas industry, universities, and research institutions.
APW will continue exploring new applications for ultra-high-pressure waterjet technology based on real-world industrial requirements, developing specialized waterjet solutions for well control safety, petrochemical maintenance, and emergency rescue operations.
From a cutting tool to a safety-oriented engineering system, APW continues to expand the role of ultra-high-pressure waterjet technology in specialized industrial applications.
